Onwards to San Diego Comic Con!

If it hasn’t blown up your newsfeed, then here’s another heads up: San Diego Comic Con is this weekend. Prepare for the onslaught of geektastic news and fun for the next couple of weeks.

San Diego Comic Con illicits a mixture of awe and trepidation every year. Ever since the infamous Twilight infiltration in 2009, Hollywood has spawned all over SDCC and it has been a phenomenon ever since. The epic waiting times are now a commonplace and the crowds is inevitable. It is an experience like no other.

This week, I will be covering events on behalf FangirlNation. There are a gazillion events going on but here are the few that I am greatly looking forward to:

•  Premiere of Vintage Tomorrow at the Comic-Con Int’l Independent Film Festival

Saturday, July 11

Steampunk is a sub culture that I am very fond of. It is also one of the hardest subculture to define. This documentary sets out to not only define it but also to explore the technology and philospohy behind it. Many big names are involved in the documentary including China Mieville (Perdido Street Stationb), Cherie Priest (Boneshaker), Gail Carriger (The Parasol Protectorate Series) and  more.

 

• Drunk History panel

Of all the subjects in the world, history is my weakest. Drunk History helps ignite my interest by telling history not as a lesson or documentary but by storytellers. Drunk story tellers with actors lip-syncing the stories.

• Get to interview creators from Dark Horse: Paul Cornell, Colleen Coover, and Rod Espinosa

• Her Universe Fashion Show

This will be the second annual show. I was able to attend last year and it was amazing! I can’t wait to see the new creations walk the stage. Here is a video from last year from the Nerdist Industries here.
