‘Liyana’ Tells a Fictional Tale Through the Real Children of Swaziland

The new film Liyana is both an animated hero’s journey of a film, as well as a true story of five children in Swaziland. Under the director of a South African storyteller named Gcina Mhlophe, the children create the story of a young girl named Liyana as she goes on a journey to rescue her twin brothers. The real world of the children blends its way into the fictional story.  It looks heartbreaking and has garnered a fair share of praise from critics and film festivals.

Liyana comes to select theaters October 10th.
