Timothy Hunter has recently lost his mother and school is not going well for him. He is regularly in fights and desperately trying to find himself. When he dreams of strange figures telling him to choose between a mundane life or one of magic, he is confused. He wants to find the magic they promise. His teacher gives him a book, one that appears to be full of blank pages. She tells him the answers he seeks will appear when he is ready. Is Tim ready for the consequences that come with magic?
Books of Magic #1 is set in Vertigo’s Sandman Universe. The series was around a couple decades, but like Sandman this series is seeing a resurgence. The comic is written by Kat Howard, with drawings by Tom Fowler.
As a fan of the original Books of Magic, I’m delighted to see the return. For those who have never read the series, think of it like Harry Potter with more real life consequences.
