The ultimate battle of good and evil is happening right now, and we don’t even know it. Writer/Director J.M. Stelly brings you The Demonologist, a supernatural thriller brought to you by Uncork’d Entertainment. The film stars Brian Krause (Charmed,) Lara Grice (Logan,) and Thomas Francis Murphy of Mindhunter.

“A detective is haunted by nightmares of his past and visions he cannot understand. When he investigates a string of brutal murders, he discovers a Cult that worships the four King Demons of Hell, who plan on bringing them forth to destroy the Earth. He must stop the Cult from starting the Apocalypse and finally come to grips with his birthright and destiny as The Demonologist.”
The first thing that struck me about this film was the magnetism of the demon sacrifice herself, Meredith (played by Manon Pages.) For as quiet as the film is and for as contrived as the dialogue can get, you are eager to pay attention to the screen when she’s on. Whether begging for mercy or controlling her cult army, you are interested in seeing what she does next. Pages fits right in with familiar faces and seasoned professionals that might sell you on a film like this.
That does not save the film from itself, though. Of all the names to give the lead do-gooder, you name him Damian. And with lines like, “I’m going to murder THE WORLD and everyone you love!” You can’t help but wonder why anyone would be shaking in their boots if a demon spewed something that self-sabotaging in your face. Visually, the sacrifices are all quite stunning, but then you are brought back to the thundering silence and milquetoast police storyline that makes you long for another poor soul to be gobbled up by the kings of hell. It does kick into a bit of a higher gear about two-thirds through as the police storyline finally gets caught up to the action, at least.
