Gilda Radner was one of the great talents of Saturday Night Live and Second City fame. The documentary, Love, Gilda follows Gilda’s life in Detroit to her rise to being a comedy star. The film interviews modern comedians like Amy Pohler, Megan McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Cecily Strong, and Bill Hader, as well as older comedy legends like Chevy Chase, Martin Short, and Lorne Michaels.  The editing features Gilda Radner in her own words, which is extremely powerful. Its also wonderful to hear comedians who truly valued Gilda Radner read her handwritten words.

Love, Gilda discusses her creative process and her positive influence on her fellow castmates. The film is fascinating and full of interesting information and doesn’t shy away from the horror of her ovarian cancer and her fight. The film is full of love, especially when discussing her life with Gene Wilder and her tiny dog Sparkles.  Love, Gilda is both beautiful and heartbreaking.

Love, Gilda is now available on Hulu.
