In the 1950’s, Communists weren’t the only people the United States government were looking for. All employees who were discovered to be homosexual were deemed “security risks” by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Suddenly, the longest hunt in the history of our government began, with the firing of tens of thousands of employees simply due to their orientation. The new documentary, The Lavender Scare discusses this barely-known chapter of history. The film is set to be released for the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.
