If playing videogames for charity sounds like your idea of a good time,Extra Life is a charity you need to know about. Created in 2008, Extra Life works with the Children’s Miracle Network to raise funds for children in the hospital and those who need help funding treatment.
The concept is pretty cool. Powered by the game streaming service Twitch, gamers sign up to donate the stream time they spend gaming to raise money. The proceeds go to Children’s Miracle Network. Gamers do what they love, kids get the support they need. Those who want to participate sign up with Extra Life, choose a day to play (it’s up to your schedule) and recruit their friends to participate to play as well. Sometimes, teams will participate in a group gaming session, or host a game marathon at a local videogame or comic book store.
You can donate or sign up with Extra Life here: https://www.extra-life.org/
Their big community-wide play-a-thon is November 2, 2019! If you already participate in Extra Life and would like FangirlNation to help promote your gaming sessions, let us know on our social media!
