The Winters Family has created one hell of a drug in New Orleans. Known as “The Ash,” the popular drug can make you relive the lives of certain famous people. The only problem, is that this drug is made from dead bodies and results are not always as expected. A family affair, things get dark quickly when the matriarch of the family is met by a crime syndicate from New York who wants to buy out the Winters’ family operation.
Cullen Bunn writes one hell of a story in this first volume of Bone Parish. The first four issues of the comic act set a firm foundation for the series. Art by Jonas Scharf is gorgeous, and the coloration by Alex Guimares gives the whole comic an uneasy feeling. With so many dark colors, and a dark story line, the comic is a combo of drug crime and horror.
Bone Parish Volume 1 is a great way to get started with the series, especially if you don’t want to collect comics month to month. The only negative to this series is that like The Ash, it leaves you wanting more.
