Kriss #1 is a Goth Myth in the Making

Kriss has never fit in within his small farming community.  After discovering that the reason he doesn’t feel home is because he was found and kept as a “son” to help on a farm, he ceases all work. When his best friend, Anja, loses to her mother to a wild sabercat, Kriss jumps into action to avenge the death. However, the mission turns out to be much different than previously expected.

Kriss #1 feels a bit like Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book, and a bit like a goth kid telling a Scandinavian myth. In short, I’m here for it.  Writer Ted Naifeh is well known for his work writing Courtney Crumrin, and while this is a male protagonist, there’s something androgynous about Kriss.  He stated:

“Everyone always asks why I only write female characters. I never had a good answer, so I thought I’d try writing a male protagonist,” said Ted Naifeh. “Warren did a magnificent job coloring Courtney Crumrin and Princess Ugg, so I’m delighted to see him take the wheel and design a whole story world.”

Kriss #1 is available now, and the whole first volume is expected for September 2019 from Oni Press.
