Starfish by Lisa Becker is a new book, just released this past Tuesday and at first glance, not a great fit for us Fangirls. It’s billed as a Rockstar Romance, but when the hero is a computer nerd in hiding, that’s where we show up. Now I love romance books, I write them and have a fair few friends who do as well, so I read them A LOT. That being said, the reason this review is a week late is because I know how important release week is and I didn’t want to hurt the lovely Miss Becker in any way. Cause well, I wasn’t a huge fan.
Starfish for me, is a three star read. Not the worst, no, but still not super favorable. And here’s why. The writing was good, solid. Well edited (which isn’t always the case, trust me). The plot made sense. The romance made sense as well. But I just…couldn’t connect. I felt nothing for either the hero or the heroine, and I nearly had to force myself to finish. It was just, well, boring. And being the person that I am, I felt bad about not enjoying it, and wanted to be sure to be as kind to the author as possible. She was great, sent me the book and a pile of swag, and I’m over here not enjoying the story at all. I felt awful. So here’s my final take. If you are interested in Rockstar Romances and possibly a fan of coding, you might actually enjoy this book. Books are totally different for every reader. Just cause I wasn’t a fan, doesn’t mean you might not be. Plus, like I said, the author is super sweet! I followed her on twitter as soon as I was done reading 🙂
