Hellboy faces off on behalf of the B.R.P.D. with the mythical beast of Vargu in this one shot, appropriately named Hellboy and the B.R.P.D.: The Beast of Vargu One-Shot. The issue is written by Mike Mignolia himself, with a team up from beloved artist favorite Duncan Fegreod. This tale sends Hellboy to Romania for a set of two tales about the cursed man-eating beast at castle Vargu. Hellboy must go to make sure that the powerful creature stops stealing and eating people. During the battle he meets a couple of Roma travelers and finds himself face to face with a strange puppet show.
Hellboy and the B.R.P.D.: The Beast of Vargu feels like a flashback to some of the original Mike Mignolia work and Duncan Fegreod does amazing work. While this was a one shot, it was nice to see the Roma be called by their real name and not the more popular slang title for them.
Hellboy and the B.R.P.D.: The Beast of Vargu is available today from Dark Horse.
