Actress and musician Halle Bailey has been cast as Ariel in the upcoming live-action version of Disney’s the Little Mermaid. Of course, because we can’t have nice things, the internet is exploding over the announcement before many of the details have been released. More details, of course, are pending. While production doesn’t start until early 2020, the film is being produced by Rob Marshall, John DeLuca, Marc Platt, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. In short, the film is in good hands and will include the original music by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” says Marshall.
