Don’t go breaking my heart.
I want to believe. I so badly want to believe. MARV is back with another trailer for what I’m assuming is some kind of new Kingsman-based franchise and this time, not a sequel but a prequel. Here’s some background: the first Kingsman movie centers around a bunch of secret agent out to stop a megalomaniac from destroying the world. The first film is charming, full of action and if held against my will (or even with my consent) may be one of my favorite movies of all time. I think Matthew Vaughn did an amazing job of bringing Mark Millar’s famous comic book series to life and even though, yes he changed lots of things from the comic to the movie, it’s still bloody brilliant.
The second film…oh, hey look, a trailer for the third one!
This trailer has a lot going on and as I mentioned before, this is meant to be a prequel. One of the biggest questions left from all the Kingsman movies has been: well, how did the Kingsman, group of secret spies, actually form? You do get an answer in the first movie but I was like many who thought I’d actually really like to see this group of nobles that just decided that post-war it would be cool to band together and save the world.
The trailer does a lot of things off the bat that I like. Kilts, explosions, knife fights! This trailer does exactly what a trailer should: leave you with questions, build hype and suspense and not show too much. I still have plenty of questions about this movie; its direction, tone, all of it and honestly, despite my utter disappointment with the second film, I’m willing to try again if you are, Kingsman.
Will you take me back?
The King’s Man will be out Valentine’s Day in 2020.
