Late Night Horror Host Svengoolie Meets the DC Universe

Share
Svengoolie is a beloved staple of the Horror and Sci-Fi community, having performed as a late night horror host in the 1970’s. While he is currently on MeTV’s Saturday night line up (8pm/7C), his new claim to fame is being included in a series of custom DC comic book inserts for October. Each two-page “chapter” will be written by DC writer and Publisher Dan DiDio. DiDio is getting some help for Svengoolie himself, which is great since DiDio is reported to be a super fan. Svengoolie, who exists off screen as Rich Koz, had a few words for the project, per DC:
“This is a dream come true for someone who’s been a life-long fan of DC super-heroes since I first got into comics as a kid,” says Koz. “I couldn’t be prouder to have Svengoolie standing side by side with these iconic characters.  I definitely identify with them, too; after all, I have to put on my costume before I can do my job, too!”
“I’m a huge fan of classic sci-fi and horror movies and I grew up with Svengoolie,” said DiDio. As a fan and a publisher, I never thought I’d have a chance to have Svengoolie in our books, let alone write the story. This is a fantastic opportunity and I couldn’t be more excited.”
Svengoolie will get some help from Wonder Woman while working to escape an army of Homicidal Chickens. For those fans who plan to attend New York Comic Con, Dan DiDio will help host a Svengoolie 40th Annviersary panel tribute on Friday October 4, 2019 from 2:45-3:45pm in room 1A24 of the Javits Convention Center.
