Death is a hard topic for many people. Author and mortician Caitlin Doughty has made it her life mission to combat this fear. With her newest book, Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs?, she is hoping to help out the littlest worriers; children. Each passage is accompanied with gorgeous art by illustrator Dianne Ruz, and is careful to provide thorough answers to questions from children.
Where Doughty excels is her refusal to talk down to small readers. She assumes that far more than children need to know these answers. While her answers are detailed, the are also succinct enough to keep the reader from having their eyes glaze over with minutia. I absolutely adored this book and finished in in one sitting. My stepdaughter will now have answers to her difficult death questions. My cat enjoys it too, as he has now been cleared of worries that he may someday come for my eyeballs.
