Within the first few minutes, we see reporter Lia Haddock inside her hotel room listening to the horrific sounds of a man bashing his head again the door screaming “this is your warning.” Freaked out yet? If that doesn’t scare you, don’t worry; there’s way more. Limetown, based on the successful podcast of the same name, follows reporter Lia Haddock (Jessica Biel) as she works to find out what happened to an experimental community of scientists fifteen years before. While her uncle is one of the hundreds of people who just disappeared seemingly overnight, Haddock tries to convince her boss it’s nothing personal and that she just doesn’t want the victims forgotten. What seems to start out fairly slow (set up is important for this one), starts running fairly quickly as Lia begins to uncover the secrets and possible survivors.
Fans of Limetown likely remember the (extremely) long break between the first and second seasons of the podcast. However, we waited. We read the prequel book when it came out. It’s fantastic to see this brought to a visual medium, and even better to see Stanley Tucci as Lia’s uncle, Emille. Jessica Biel nails the part of Lia Haddock, and it’s also thrilling that the show doesn’t try to hide the fact that Lia Haddock is a lesbian. I was expecting some of the story to be lost with the transition from a sound medium to visual, but prepare to hear some of those familiar cues from the show. Oh, and be prepared to shudder when you hear the song “The Tennessee Waltz.”
