Kazoo Magazine isn’t afraid to garner attention, and this morning they issued a press release that they are officially endorsing Elizabeth Warren for President of the United States in the 2020 election. It will be interesting to see if other presses follow their lead.
Here’s what Editor-in-Chief Erin Bried had to say:
We have followed the Democratic primaries carefully, and we whole-heartedly believe that Elizabeth Warren’s spirit, compassion, intelligence and well-researched positions on the issues that matter to us most as parents of girls make her the very best choice to be the next president of the United States. That’s why Kazoo magazine is proud to endorse Elizabeth Warren for president. As far as we know, Kazoo is the first kids’ magazine ever to make an official presidential endorsement. We sometimes hear that we should ‘stay out of politics’ because we’re a kids’ magazine, as if our children’s future is none of our business. But it is precisely because we’re a children’s magazine that we care so very much. The decisions we’re making today are the legacy we’ll hand to our children. We owe it to them to be engaged and to try to effect as much change as possible.”

Kazoo Magazine is quarterly and focused on kids age 5-12. Writer Roxane Gay has referred to them as ““the magazine for little girls who want to grow up to be president.” The magazine recently released Noisemakers: 25 Women Who Raised Their Voices and Changed the World, filled with work from women and nonbinary artists and writers.
