Nissy is spending the summer with her mother and brother in the British countryside, much to her disappointment. She’s made mistakes and the distance is supposed to be good for her. However, a short time after arriving her brother stumbles across the body of a murdered women when playing with friends in the moors. A local professor quickly befriends the fifteen year-old (RED FLAG ON THE FIELD) and Nissy soon recognizes that here animals seem to come up to her like they know her.
The artwork for this collection is gorgeous, especially one image of foxes looking up into a tree. The animals are well drawn and it’s easy to fall under the spell of this book. Nicnevin and the Bloody Queen is most definitely not for children. There are some graphic murder scenes as well as sex. As the story progressed I found myself muttering “DO YOU WANT THE WILD HUNT? THIS IS HOW YOU GET THE WILD HUNT!” For fans of British mythos this is a highly entertaining story.
