If Bulbasaur were a skincare product, what kind would he be? TONYMOLY and Pokémon partially answered this question with their Bulbasaur/Isanghessi sheet mask that uses green tea to clean pores.
Bulbasaur is a grass/poison pokémon from Generation I with a cult following. Fans recognize him as one of the starter pokémon from the Red/Blue versions of the first Pokémon Gameboy games. Websites like Bulbapedia and social media pages like Bulbasaur Propaganda on Facebook further reflect his cult status among Pokémon enthusiasts. After all, he is very cute and fun to play with, especially since he learns cool attacks like Razor Leaf and Solar Beam. But there’s one thing they don’t tell you about Bulbasaur—and that’s the fact that if he were an otaku skincare product, he would be a green tea sheet mask.
If you’re looking for extra self-care during quarantine, look no further than the Bulbasaur sheet mask by TONYMOLY and Pokémon. The Isanghessi sheet mask unleashes pore-cleaning power directly onto your face along with other green tea skin benefits. (Isanghessi is the Korean name for Bulbasaur.) This product is a result of their collaboration along with other Pokémon skincare products. There are even sheet masks based on other Pokémon such as Charmander and Squirtle in this collaboration. I chose the Bulbasaur mask for two reasons: 1. I love Bulbasaur and 2. I’m interested in exploring the skin benefits of green tea. Green tea both cleanses and moisturizes your skin, so it’s a double whammy in terms of skin health.
When I read the ingredients in this sheet mask, I found out that it contains Camellia Sinensis leaf extract as the primary pore-cleansing agent. Fair enough. However, I was more delighted to learn that there are extracts from other herbs incorporated into this Bulbasaur sheet mask. Herbal extracts that are present in this sheet mask include sage, lavender, rosemary, and others. Reading about all those extracts influenced me to expect the sheet mask to be highly aromatic.
After I washed my hands, I gently unfolded the mask and gently placed it onto my face, smoothing out the various areas that crinkled from my ever-so-slight facial movements. When I put the sheet mask on my face, I noticed it was plain and white. Then I noticed the faint aroma of green tea. It wasn’t overwhelming, but it was still fairly present, which is beneficial for people who are bothered by intense smells.
Nonetheless, anything this sheet mask lacks in design and aroma, it makes up for in skin benefits. I could feel the mask working its magic on my thirsty skin as I meditated for thirty minutes. (The instructions say to leave the mask on for anywhere between twenty to thirty minutes.) The mask felt moist and refreshing on my skin throughout the entire time I had it on my face. I also noticed that compared to the egg-based Gudetama sheet mask I reviewed, the liquid/moisture felt lighter because the ingredients are mostly herbal.
As much as I enjoyed meditating with the mask on, the best part of this whole self-care ritual was taking the mask off. As soon as I took the mask off, the air kissed my skin as though it were compelled by the leftover moisture. I gently traced a finger on my face, confirming that yes, my skin felt noticeably softer than before. I could tell my skin was happy with me for trying out the Bulbasaur sheet mask.
Overall, I recommend this sheet mask to other Pokémon fans and anyone else who’s interested in the more otaku side of skincare. Furthermore, anyone who needs more self-care, relaxation, and self-love in their lives should try out a sheet mask like this. I consider Bulbasaur to be very kawaii, so it’s also a great way to add more cuteness to your skincare routine. There’s no such thing as being too cute.
