Fluffy, Fluffy Cinnamoroll Vol. 2 is a great followup to volume 1. Think cute characters, psychic visions, the magic of nature, and plenty of more Sanrio goodness where that came from. Light spoilers ahead!
As many of you know, I’m a big Sanrio fan. I’ve enjoyed reviewing Sanrio products (like the Gudetama sheet mask) and anime such as Aggretsuko. However, I must admit that I was initially wary to start reading volume 1 of Fluffy, Fluffy Cinnamoroll. Based on the cover, I wasn’t sure if I would like the art style. Lo and behold, I loved reading Fluffy, Fluffy Cinnamoroll Vol. 1 so much, I decided to review it for FangirlNation Magazine. (You can read it through the aforementioned link.) This review will give you a glimpse into the second volume of the series.
Like the first volume, Fluffy, Fluffy Cinnamoroll Vol. 2 is a collaboration between 2 people: Yumi Tsukirino (story and art) and Chisato Seki (original concept). I like the second volume’s cover much more than I liked the first one. The watercolor-esque pink background that volume 2 has going on is more soothing and pleasant. Furthermore, I enjoyed volume 2 even more than I enjoyed volume 1, which shows a lot of promise as far as this manga series and I are concerned.
Throughout this manga, Cinnamoroll and his friends go on cute adventures, all while trying to avoid being swiped by Cavity, the gray cloud villain who’s always trying to kidnap Cinnamoroll. Unlike the first series, each comic isn’t an isolated adventure—multiple comics have sequels later on in the book. I appreciate how Tsukirino makes the comics with sequels especially worth reading thanks to their entertainment value and simple, kawaii art style.
The main story in this book stars Milk, an adorable baby boy puppy who always has a pacifier in his mouth. While sleeping in his magical cradle, Milk has a prophetic dream about a black cloud coming down and swooping up his puppy friends. Psychic visions like this sound 100% plausible in a series where trees talk and flowers hold special secrets. The other pups can’t fly like Cinnamoroll, but they can do plenty of other amazing things! I appreciate how magical and semi-animistic the sense of nature is in this manga.
My favorite thing about volume 2 is getting to see more of the characters’ personalities through their interactions. When I saw that Mocha, a trendy brown pup with big dreams, was on the cover, I hoped this book would give me the opportunity to get to know her better. Turns out, she’s more prominent in the stories than she was in volume 1! Woohoo! Mocha is a trendy, enthusiastic puppy and I look forward to seeing if she achieves any of her dreams at any point during this series.
In the Cinnamoroll universe, even the villains are cute! Let’s face it: I’m a sucker for a quality Sanrio villains like Kuromi. The black bears with devilish tails in volume 2 are the most precious Sanrio villains since Lloromannic. I really enjoy stories where I like the villains, so how could I help but love those fluffy, fluffy black bears? If you’re into cute villains, this manga series will totally hit your sweet spot.
