Madison Young is taking her sexuality on the road with the new show on virtual cable TV network Revry. Her show, Submission Possible, is a deep look at sexuality, fetishes, and sexual exploration. Let’s not pull punches; Madison Young is a feminist porn star and she shows that side the entire time. Submission Possible is a docuseries that explores the queer side of the sexual underground and exploration of kink, BDSM an fetishes. The series is extremely sex positive, but it also includes fetishes I’ve never even heard of.
The first episode of Submission Possible focuses on New Orleans, and frankly if it didn’t start there, in San Francisco or New York, I would have been surprised. Young first visits a kink bar known as The Phoenix, which just so happens to host a competition for Mx Phoenix every year. She talks to the current title holder and learns a great deal about bi-erasure. The episode explores sex magic rituals, spectrophillia ( sexual arousal from ghosts, haunted spaces, or images in mirrors), and ecosexuality. Evidently spirits are terrible with matters of consent.
“Submission Possible is a dare. A challenge for us to shift the narrative. For us to celebrate our differences and our sameness, our connections,” proclaims Madison Young. “It is a culmination of my deep desire to gather women, POC, queers, trans folk, non-binary community, femmes, butches, sex workers, kinksters around the kitchen table, around the fire, to share our stories, of who we are as sexual beings. Because our desires matter. Our stories matter. We are claiming our space. This is the time. It is time for us to talk loudly and boldly about our orgasms, our pleasure, our kinks, our fetishes, our desires, our relationships.”
One of the major positives of Submission Possible is the fact that it does stick to it’s mission statement; it opens the playing field to people of color, the non-binary community and trans folk. There was even talk of the ghost of Tennessee Williams hanging out in the oldest gay bar in New Orleans, Cafe Lafitte in Exile. I definitely want to give kudos to Young as she is not only the creator of Submission Possible, but the writer and director as well. I do need to point out, however, that Young is extremely performative in this series, and sometimes that can be distracting. Her voice is that high breathy type that is more commonly heard in porn and less commonly in documentaries. Even the trailer features scenes form her porn work, which can be distracting from the serious nature of what the documentary series is trying to explore. For example, pretending to masturbate in a cemetery while talking about visiting Marie Laveau’s grave. Actual witches I know are going to have a real hard time watching her drag an athame down her arm and pretend to fellate it. Cool that you found a new kink, but remember that some people do take their magical practices very seriously. This series most definitely will not be for everyone and it will make some viewers roll their eyes with how often Young makes it all about her. However, for others this is going to be eye opening and may even serve as a primary source for human sexuality courses.
Submission Possible begins premieres June 19, 2020 on the Revry network online. It’s a subscription service that is downloadable on iOS, tvOS, Android, Fire TV, Roku and Samsung via www.revry.tv
While more episodes are planned, the series did have to take a production break. New episodes are expected in 2021.
