Quin was just your normal New Orleans teenager trying to survive High School bullies and manage his feelings for the girl he liked. It all changed when a meteor shower struck the city and created a new type of human: Enhanced. Most of these new “Super Cops” (or Superheroes, take your pick) exhibited incredible power from flight to light manipulation and even control over their Chi! So what did Quin get? Well, in his eyes, a whole lot of nothing. But as Glow, another New Orleans Enhanced sees it, Quin has more in him to give than he knows.
About The Comic
This comic focuses around Quin, a high school student who receives invulnerability from a meteor shower that nearly decimates his home town. Amidst civil rights disputes, rampant injustice for people of color and a growing tension between cops and citizens, Quin suddenly finds himself Enhanced. So how is a kid with super powers supposed to handle a full school load while changing the culture of his city? I can tell you this: he does it with an awkward enthusiasm few nerdy high school students could muster.
Quincredible touches on many of today’s important movements/messages. It discusses: racial inequity/inequality, police brutality, Civil Rights and the imbalance of treatment that people of color experience every day. It also touches upon how police are perceived in predominantly black communities and why they are vilified. The characters are well rounded, richly written and full of a life I want to see in more comics. Author Rodney Barnes uses this story as a metaphor for reality; he captures the essence of the struggles people of color face and puts it into a perspective the anyone with a mind open enough can relate to.
This comic is as incredible as its title hints and I HIGHLY encourage others to follow this series. I look forward to future issues of Quincredible!
