Leonard Maltin is one of the nicest people in the movie review game. Back in my days in Southern California I was lucky enough to meet him at the screening of a….well, really bad movie. He was so kind and so gracious, so of course I feel like I need to get this upcoming game from Mondo:
Modno Games is celebrating 40 years of Leonard Maltin’s movie guide, which was like the film nerd’s movie guide. Leonard Maltin’s reviews synopses are legendary. In the new Mondo board game King of the Movies players get a chance to come up with their own descriptions of film in an attempt to get others to believe it’s a real Maltin review. If you choose the real synopsis, or you get yours voted on, you win points. The game works with up to six players and it can be easily done over Zoom or even with the King of Movies app for iOS and Android phones.
If you come up with a particularly great one, things get more involved:If your synopsis is extra creative, your insane/brilliant/outrageous movie idea might just become a future cinematic sensation. Snap a photo of your best and most creative King of Movies synopses and post them to Twitter and Instagram with #MaltinKingofMovies. On January 1st of each year, Leonard Maltin himself (!!!) will choose one synopsis that will be officially optioned by Drafthouse Films.
