Ash & Thorn #3 is the latest installment of this amazing comic that has an older woman coming to the rescue of the planet. I’ve gushed and gushed about this stories previous issues and this one might be a bit of a filler, in some aspects, but then at the end you get this whole twist and it’s all “what is going on?” and again I’m sucked in like woah and waiting to see what happens next.
This issue deals with a sort of dream sharing type spell that is supposed to help Lottie, but mostly just shoves the past into her face. The imagery of her walking down the thorn tree and seeing the faces of the past champions is beautiful and sad and gives this part of the story punch. Which is needed because the stuff with Pickle is cute but sorta pointless.
The travel through the dream realm is interesting and the art is definitely the winner there. I did like the ending with the twist and the cliffhanger, which is weird since I normally hate cliffhangers. It leaves you all but salivating to see what comes next.
As always make sure you check out the recipes. Pickle’s Battle Cookies sound amazing and I’ll definitely be giving them a try.
