On Thursday, the cast and executive producers of The Proud Family, an animated series from Disney Channel, reunited at the NAACP Arts, Culture and Entertainment Festival. The series premiered 18 years ago and is fondly remembered for its huge cultural impact. The reunion was to reminisce about working on the show almost two decades ago, and to announce the great news that the Proud family will be returning as The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.

Keke Palmer moderated the panel, but in the new series she will be playing Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins who is described as:

a 14-year-old activist who relentlessly marches to the beat of her own drum. She is extremely mature for her age and will not hesitate to shut anyone down with her blunt honesty and wisdom. The adopted daughter of mixed race parents, Maya is new to town, and initially disassociates herself from Penny and her crew because she is skeptical about what she perceives to be the superficiality of social cliques. However, Penny eventually gains her hard-earned respect and the two become good friends.

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder picks up with the story of Penny Proud and her family. Today all seasons of The Proud Family are available on Disney+, while the new show is currently in production to be streamed exclusively on Disney+.
