The Hellier fandom has been waiting for months for one podcast: The Penny Royal Podcast. Kentucky is crisscrossed by a series of underground caves and tunnels. For those who are well-versed in the realm of high strangeness, host and writer Nathan Isaac is about to blow your mind. If you had told me a year ago that I’d be fascinated by a single area of Kentucky, I would have asked you if maybe you weren’t feeling quite right in the head. Woooooboy. Are you into possible mystery cults, alien space bats, meat falling from the sky and other just general weirdness? WELCOME TO THE PENNY ROYAL PODCAST. Oh, and this isn’t a fictional drama podcast like Black Tapes or something of the sort. This is legit stuff. Season one is only 8 episodes, so this is entirely bingeable. For those obsessed with the Hellier documentary series, Greg Newkirk makes an appearance in the show as well on the episode Greenman.
Nathan Isaac’s accent is a soothing Kentucky drawl, even as he’s talking about some pretty freaky things like cults and rituals. Headsup, that this isn’t exactly kid friendly. There’s some swearing and some stories that kids and sensitive listeners will find disturbing. Heck, there’s some stuff I found disturbing. If you’re into high strangeness and the weird, Penny Royal is a must listen.
All episodes of Penny Royal are now available on their website, and most major podcast platforms have received it as of today.
