Miles Morales is dealing with a lot of changes. Not only is he still learning how to be Spider-Man, he’s adjusting to a life without his father and a move from Brooklyn to Spanish Harlem. With so much going on, it’s exactly the wrong time for Vulture and a new accomplice to show up on the scene. Even worse, Miles gets caught by the police at a crime scene for a crime he didn’t commit and has to be rescued by Peter Parker. With a local technological super power promising to have an answer for curing cancer, but a reputation for dangerous methods, it’s up to Miles to save the day.
Author Brittney Morris nails Miles Morales and sets up a perfect prequel to the most recent Spider-Man video game. The book is smart, entertaining, and captures the Miles’ unique voice. The book also covers the difficult of being a Black man in the wrong place at the wrong time and false accusations. I read this book super quickly and found myself greatly enjoying it.
