Happy Hour #3

January 6th was the release of Ahoy Comics Happy Hour 3.

This newest issue continues the absolute WTF of this series. No really, there is so much going on here and some of it might get lost along the way.  In this issue we follow Jerry and Kim on their continued quest to be free of the Joy Police and we also spend more time with Hamm, who might be on a mission that he’s embedded himself in so deep he’s lost his way, and then there is a dominatrix? Oh, and lets not forget the public stoning. I’ve never really read a comic before where there was so much going on that I almost want to ask the writer to maybe take a thing or two out. I wouldn’t, but the thought was there.

The satire is strong here and it is timely for what is going on in our world today, but that also means that it might hit a reader the wrong way. I winced more than once reading this issue. I feel pretty certain that is what they are going for, and it does deliver.

In all honesty, this might not be the time for me to read something like this. I get the idea of satire, but when looking at the wolds makes me sad and angry, I don’t know that looking at what the world could become, is helping.

My views on this are probably not the same as the general reading audience for Happy Hour, and I will easily admit the writing is strong, the art is good and it definitely will make you feel something. It’s whether you feel anger or amusement that is subjective here. I merely felt despair.
