Trailer Released for ‘The Courier’ Starring Benedict Cumberbatch

During the Cold War, Oleg Penkovsky helped deescalate the Cuban Missile Crisis with critical intelligence. He would be charged with treason in Russia and executed for it. The new film The Courier follows the real life spy thriller story of this partnership. While Benedict Cumberbatch is of course a major draw, but the film also stars Merab Ninidze, Rachel Brosnahan, and Jessie Buckley. The Courier comes to theaters March 19, 2021.

Here’s the official synopsis:

THE COURIER is a true-life spy thriller, the story of an unassuming British businessman Greville Wynne (Benedict Cumberbatch) recruited into one of the greatest international conflicts in history. At the behest of the UK’s MI-6 and a CIA operative (Rachel Brosnahan), he forms a covert, dangerous partnership with Soviet officer Oleg Penkovsky (Merab Ninidze) in an effort to provide crucial intelligence needed to prevent a nuclear confrontation and defuse the Cuban Missile Crisis.
