The Map of Tiny Perfect Things is Groundhogs Day for Gen Y

Mark is a smart teenage boy trapped in a time anomaly. Stuck repeating the same day over and over, he’s relatively content not having to make up his mind about his future. One day, while working on perfecting his routine at the pool and preventing a girl from getting hit in the head with a beach ball, he encounters Margaret. Now he discovers that he’s not the only one stuck in the time loop. After a few days of Mark trying to earn Margaret’s trust, they begin to create a map of all the absolute perfect moments repeating day after day. Things are not as easy as they seem and Mark may have far more to learn that he thought.

What’s super enjoyable are the random time travel references thrown in. Mark referenced Groundhogs Day with Bill Murray really early on in the film. He loves the movie Time Bandits. At one point in time Margaret accuses him of watching too much Doctor Who. The film is based on a short story by Lev Grossman, the writer of The Magicians. This film definitely has the Grossman style and form of dialogue all over it.  It’s a bit like a Hank Green book, but far less sad. Margaret is such an enjoyable character. She’s extremely smart and wants to study astrophysics.

The Map of Tiny Perfect Things premiers on Prime Video February 12, 2021.
