Secrets of Camp Whatever

Willow is headed to camp and has absolutely no desire to be going there. Her father’s enthusiasm over his days at camp are palatable, but not reaching through Willow’s shell. Her parents are planning to spend the week moving into her late grandma’s home, but locals to the area are ready to tell them to turn around and go home. Evidently the home is haunted and the town of Nowhere is known for sightings of supposedly mythical creatures. The camp is surrounded in fog and accessible only by a weird boat that looks like a Viking ship. Have you seen these weird gnome statutes? Runes? The clown dude that just says “you’ll love it” ? Willow soon learns that the camp may be more dangerous, and a great deal more fun, than expected.

The series is cute, fun, and involves bigfoot, witches, and vampires.   Secrets of Camp Whatever is designed for young adults, but fun for older readers as well. I loved the fact that this graphic novel has a deaf character, but also does a great job of reminding us that people who make a huge deal about someone being different can be destructive and truly uncomfortable. The characters are adorable, and I really enjoyed the friendly creatures throughout the story.

Secrets of Camp Whatever is expected in comic book stores March 2, 2021.
