In the 1960’s a family in Chicago experienced one of the absolute worst things that could happen to new parents. A young boy was taken from his mother’s arms in the hospital. Fifteen months later, a toddler was found abandoned in New Jersey. At a time before genetic testing, the young boy was returned to the parents. However, years later the found boy discovers that he is not a biological match to his family and that their kidnaped son is still out there.
Directed by Ursula Macfarlane, The Lost Sons follows Paul, the foundling child and the difficult process of discovering that almost everything he has believed to be true about himself is false. Working with DNA professionals, he began to unravel the history. For viewers sensitive to stories of child abuse, this one is going to hit you in the heart pretty strongly. Like life, some of this documentary will leave you with a sense of loss, and the realization that life is extremely fleeting.
