‘The Thing That Ate Birds’ is Unsettling Shortform Horror

Share

Imagine that Voldemort and Gollum were combined into some weird nose-less bird-eating creature in the Highlands.  Welcome to the world of The Thing That Ate Birds.  This short film follows a man who seems to shoot first an ask questions later. Clearly not a man who takes adequate precautions, as evidenced by his wife stepping on a smashed glass he’s left behind in the first few minutes, it becomes a seriously bad time when he comes across a creature who appears to be just eating birds out in the country. The film reminds us that if the monster isn’t noticing you, better to leave it be.

Prepare for blood and accidental bodily injuries. The camera work is solid, and there is some definite gore factor in this one. For seasoned horror fans, it won’t feel like much in the way of blood and guts, but for a more squeamish audience take caution.

The Thing That Ate Birds  is from Gunpower and Sky’s Horror division, Alter. It is screening during the SXSW festival.
