It’s the end for Happy Hour, and it has been a wild ride, that is for sure.
Over six issues we’ve followed Jerry and Kim as they went from being held by the Happiness police to being stuck in a Depression Town and then, in a amusing ending, a town full of Irony. This whole series has been satire compounded with gore and it has had it moments of pure fun, and just a few bits where the silliness might have gone a bit far.
As ending go, issue 6 of Happy Hour did a good job of tying everything up with a nice, bloody bow. The bad guy get dead, the good guys get free and irony wins the day. And we can’t forget the damn foot fetish, which apparently does not true love make. Who knew? The only thing I could of asked for in order to make this a perfect ending, is some sport of consequence, or, well… death for McSmith. She was just weird and letting her live well, maybe that means there is more coming.
In a fun turn, Ahoy added three micro shorts to the back end of this comic, like they’d done for others series in the past. This time there stories are All American, Head-Castle Spurgeon and Sweet Revenge. Each of these stories are weird in their own right, and their weirdness is the perfect tail end to this very weird series. (Yes I used the word weird a lot. I don’t know how else to describe Happy Hour) If you only have time to read one (why this would happen, I do not know) please, please read Sweet Revenge. It made me snort giggle and want to go make sure that every single one of my baking accoutrements was meticulously clean.
Happy Hour #6 released from Ahoy Comics, today April 28th.
