Snow Angels is back, and it came back with a bang!
The end of the first season left Milli and Mae alone and trying to survive the icy wasteland, with everything they’ve ever known possibly not being true. It left them vulnerable and scared. This first issue off the new season picks up right where we left off.
The thing I love so much about this comic is that you viscerally feel everything these two girls are goign through. Lemire and Jock have done a brilliant job of making a story that sucks you in, truly. Plus, I imagine, my being a mom makes it even more emotional for me. I want so badly to scoop Milli and Mae up and tell theme everything is goign to be alright, even though I don’t know that at all. I can hope that in the end they’re going to be okay, but another one of the brilliant aspects of this story is that there is no guessing what comes next.
In this issue we get to see more of the Snowman, the robot that has been terrorizing them, but we also see more. A human man held in some sort of stasis. An even larger robot than the snowman who might be friendly, but might not. And then there are the people. people out of the trench? It should be impossible, but they are there. And it begs the question of whether they are friend or foe. Every issue leaves you with more questions than the last.
How did these people survive out of the trench? What did happen to the world? Is the Snowman all robot? Or a type of hybrid?
There is is much I want to know, and I can only hope that Lemire and Jock give me all the answers. I’ll be sitting here, waiting for the next issue, and then the one after that and so on.
