We’re back again with Black Mask Studio’s Everfrost #2 and the action picks up right where the first issue left off.
Van, our heroine, is in for even more upset in her life as she comes in contact with old allies who in turn might be enemies now. There is a lot going on in this issue and its hard to really go into it without spoiling anything, so watch me tiptoe here.
Warring factions in an apocalyptic world is not a new trope. But Lindsay does well here in setting up how not one of them is morally right or wrong, but all are just trying to survive. And survival is not easy. Or pretty. Van seems conflicted on that topic, often. She seems to know that she might be her own enemy but she’s hit a point where she has to trust her instincts and her quick reflexes. It’s how she’s survived as long as she has and now that she has a new mission, she needs to keep surviving. It won’t be easy. In this issue we get introduced to a few new characters, and not all of them make it out alive. I’ve come to realize that is what I should expect, so luckily I hadn’t gotten attached. That’s pretty much how I’ll continue the series.
Everfrost is a huge, encompassing comic and you have to pay attention toe very little bit. You might miss things otherwise. It speaks to the writer’s intelligence, just how much gets packed into these pages. It draws you in. I said it when I reviewed the first issue, the story drags you in and you’re glad that it does. It’s evocative and emotional. I know we’re only two issues in, but I am hooked and I can say with ease that it’s of my favorite new comics.
Everfrost #2 released today from Black Mask Studios and is available everywhere you buy comics.
