Before I head into this week’s comic offerings, I need to tell you about this: recently Kickstarter hit a serious milestone, Kickstarter crossed $6 billion pledged to projects on our site — more than 200,000 of them. Six billion dollars! With that being said, let’s get into this weeks Kickstarter Round Up!
Today we start with, Fairy Fare by Nick Bryan & Rosie Alexander.
A comic about fairyfolk launching an app.
The fairyfolk finally join the gig economy with new app FairyFare, hiring an army of workers to grant wishes for a reasonable fee. Sisters Phil and Tash Spaight sign up to help make dreams come true, but Tash starts to wonder — do paid favors really improve the world? And why do these fairies want human money anyway?
There is also, Hard Struck by Codey Anderson. This is one is a bit hard to see, but the conversation about veterans needs to keep happening.
A compelling story about PTSD in war veterans.
Military personnel are more likely to be exposed to significant traumatic events than the general population. Although they are trained for the rigors of battle, this cannot always prepare them for the psychological effects experienced in a combat environment. Hard Struck follows a combat soldier as he navigates through combat operations and the effects it has on him and his team as they transition back into society. Dealing with the effects of complex PTSD, the story covers the issues veterans face day to day and highlights the importance of mateship when overcoming combat stress and mental health struggles.
Codey Anderson is an ex-serving army veteran and now full time illustrator. He began his art career in illustration and 3D animation within the gaming industry. As an artist and illustrator, he’s had his work published in newspapers, books and magazines nationally and across the sea.
And lastly, you could also help out, Tommy Lin: A Motorcycle Fairytale by Maggie G. Vicknair.
A 56-page comic retelling of Tam Lin — with motorcycles!
Gretchen has been on the outs with her best friend Janet ever since Janet started dating the no-good biker Tommy Lin. When Gretchen discovers she is the only one who can rescue Tommy from the grips of a malevolent supernatural motorcycle gang, The Wild Hunt, she gets in her Plymouth Hemi Cuda and a high-speed chase ensues. Can Gretchen put her selfish hatred of Tommy aside in order to save him for the sake of her friend’s happiness? An action-packed retelling of the classic fairy tale Tam Lin, Tommy Lin: A Motorcycle Fairy Tale is a comic book coming-of-age story about love, friendship, and jealousy.
Remember to swing by next week to see what Kickstarter has to offer.
