Last time, I covered 5 webtoons I’m reading, though I have since found out that Kind of Love ended. Without further ado, below are a few more, again in no particular order.

Lore Olympus

One of the most popular Webtoons, Lore Olympus retells the Hades and Persephone story. It’s so popular that it is being adapted into a Young Adult series. The art is beautiful, the characters complex, and their stories complicated. The creator does a wonderful job with the depth and background for each. She includes their challenges to help readers truly feel like we can understand them, except for maybe Apollo. This comic deals with difficult themes that might trigger some readers, including physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, along with trauma, but handles these fairly responsibly. Highly recommend!

Remarried Empress

In Remarried Empress, Navier, the lovely and smart Empress of the Eastern Empire, is loved and respected by all. After her husband brings home a mistress, stuff happens, he seeks a divorce, and she remarries. Pretty solid but challenging for a while because two major characters, the emperor and his mistress, are horrible (by design). While overall enjoyable, I couldn’t recommend this until I knew that plot part would resolve, and now it has (thankfully). There’s a lot of trashy drama, which I guess makes the royals more relatable somehow? The Emperor’s level of stupidity is too much, though. I’m hoping for a crossover between this and Men of the Harem, as that is sure to be amusing.

Men of the Harem

Men of the Harem shares the same writer as Remarried Empress, though a completely different vibe in this reversed role comic. When the emperor is killed, his daughter, Latil, takes the throne after a battle with her stepbrother. Unmarried and recently scorned by her lover, she decides to do the only sensible thing any male emperor in her seat has done– take on 5 consorts as part of a harem for a year while she gets to know them. Each is complicated and intriguing in his own way, and oh the egos, drama, plus comedy! This includes an element of mystery as they investigate the late emperor’s assassination. Latil’s second in command is her best wingman with many fan ships.

I’ll Be in Your Care

I’ll Be in Your Care, is the heartwarming story of Seishuu, a young man from the countryside and who moved to Tokyo for university. He needed affordable housing and a part-time job, and his older brother-figure’s old college friend,  Ginzou, needed a housekeeper-cook, so the brother-figure connected them. The dynamic between the two is super sweet and caring, and the characters very relatable. Seishuu is extremely responsible and domestically competent. Ginzou is a workaholic who lives in PJs (pandemic attire, but adorable) but in turn neglects his health, wellness, and home. I love that this comic represents a contrast in adulting. Because the main characters are both male, it doesn’t include gender roles as an element. Success might look very different from the outside vs inside, as do various relationships in lives. Can’t wait to see where this goes and hope it becomes an Original (currently Canvas)!
