‘Little Monsters’ is Unsettling and Visually Stunning

Share

Little Monsters #1 opens with a group of children playing together. Within a few pages though, we realize that these games are in a post-apocalyptic world and these kids aren’t exactly just kids. Pretty quickly we realize that the kids play a jumping game that literally means jumping off a building. We see a kid who plays guitar but has lived so long that he forgets the songs he writes after playing them long enough and is unsure if he’s rewritten them. One of the children decides that staying close by is boring and it’s time to explore the destroyed world around them to do something new and different.

The only coloration in the comic is the occasionally splash of red, giving it a very Sin City vibe.  Even when one first starts reading Little Monsters #1, you get that unsettling feeling that there is something very wrong with these children. Justin Lemire’s writing and Dustin Nguyen’s art are a killer combination.

Little Monsters #1 is available comes to comic stores March 9th.
