Red Tag #1

Red Tag issue #1 of a STOUT CLUB exclusive 5 issue run, is timely.

Leco, Lis and Lu are street wise teens in Sao Paulo and they try to fight injustice with spray paint. Their medium is spray paint and their style is pixo, a distinct style of tagging in Brazil. After an injustice is noticed by a corrupt cop, the trio plan to fight back. And they do, but they also unwittingly get their hands on really sensitive information they should not have. Now there are powerful people trying to clean up a mess, and Lis, Lu and Leco are in their cross-hairs.

This first issue of Red Tag is a great set up for what looks to be a really exciting adventure through the streets of Sao Paulo with a group of vigilantes who only want justice. The story is fast paced and definitely grabs you by the throat. And as I started this post with, it is very timely. All over the world young kids are starting to push back against what they feel to be corruption. This comic might be based in Brazil, but it would be easily to take this story and put it anywhere else in the world and it still feel fresh and relevant. It’s a visceral read, this story and no matter where you stand on politics here or there, this is definitely worth a read.

Plus, can I gush abut the art? It’s gritty and real in a way that a lot of comics shy away from. The art matches the story line beautifully and I can’t wait to see where this will go.

The first issue of Red Tag released today from comiXology and will be simultaneously released in English and Portuguese.
