When Joana moves to London to start her dream job, she thinks it is all coming together for her. Unfortunately, life isn’t as perfect as she’s expected. Joana’s boss is an idea-stealing thief. The man she thinks she is in love with is dismissive of her feelings. Those feelings? Well, she’s not exactly great at dealing with the negative feelings that pop up. Joana visits a “dragon tamer” to help this young witch learn to feel her emotions and deal with what they need to teach her.

I Feel Awful, Thanks is an adorable and charming graphic novel. Written and illustrated by Lara Pickle, the entire book is full of bright colors and lessons that take many of us decades to learn. Throughout the book, Joana learns how to address her emotions and her fears of being too sensitive with advice that can be used by the readers out here in our mundane world. It doesn’t feel preachy, but still leaves the readers with great advice to try in our own lives.

I Feel Awful, Thanks comes to stores from Oni Press March 4, 2024.
