Have you ever wondered what would happen if a wicked rich family got what they deserved? Dez Lane is in her last year of design school in Savannah and so far, has no future job prospects. She’s made her way thrifting and sewing and wants nothing more than to become a household name in the design world. Dez comes from a world where her mom cleans rooms in a Las Vegas hotel, and nothing is ever guaranteed. When she is accosted by the wealthy Patrick Ruskin at a bar, she only briefly considers him because his mother is editor-in-chief at Nouveau magazine. Even being briefly associated with Nouveau could raise her star publicly and lead her to a successful career. And so, Dez agrees to date Patrick, if only for the brief chance at meeting his mother. When he invites her to his family’s private island, she’s thrilled. Unfortunately, the second she signs the required NDA to be there, she realizes that the Ruskin’s don’t seem to have any connection to the life of the real world. She begins to observe how the staff are treated, and how they all seem to look similar. When the staff rises up against the Ruskins, Dez finds herself trying to survive as each of the Ruskin’s are punished for their horrific indiscretions.
If you loved the movie Ready or Not, if you’ve watched as someone with more money and power got away with hurting you, if you’ve ever wanted to see the cruelest among us be punished for their crimes, Guillotine is going to rock your world. Author Delilah S. Dawson has created a short piece of fiction that acts as a beautiful catharsis, if you’ve got the stomach for it. The book is opulent and violent. Each punishment is more vomit-worthy than the last. Guillotine is wicked, bloody, and cathartic.
Guillotine is available from Titan Books September 10, 2024.
