Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, celebrated colorist Dave Stewart, and Lemony Snicket (writer of A Series of Unfortunate Events) have teamed up for a fully illustrated version of Carlo Collodi’s novel Pinocchio: The Illuminated Edition. The hardcover features 50 original illustrations done by Mike Mignola. Lemony Snicket adds over 100 full text annotations, as slipped in typewritten sheets. Snicket’s annotations are marked with what look like handwritten numbers. This is the first of publishing Beehive Book’s Illuminated Editions imprint to bring unique literary adaptions to press.
Pinocchio: The Illuminated Edition is just the right blend of beautiful and bizarre. Snicket’s writing appears to spiral into madness and Mike Mignola and Dave Stewart impress as always. The edition is weird, but strangely perfect for the Pinnochio story.
