Artist and creator Jill Thompson’s adorable watercolor art and charming stories have been a favorite of mine for some time. Image Comics has put together the collected Scary Godmother stories just in time for Halloween.
When Hannah Marie goes out for her first trick-or-treating experience with the big kids, she’s afraid of monsters and whether they will hurt her. Before she heads out with her cousins, her parents remind her that if she gets scared, she can always call upon Scary Godmother. Her cousin Jimmy, however, is not interested in having to end his fun by eight in the evening. He gets the wicked idea to scare Hannah Marie so much that she decides to never bother them for Halloween again. To scare her, Jimmy takes Hannah Marie to “the Spook House.” What he doesn’t expect is for her to enter the house and meet her soon to be best friends; Scary Godmother and the adorable creatures that support her.
