Pulitzer prize-winner Anthony Del Col gives readers another Kill Shakespeare story with Romeo Vs. Juliet: A Kill Shakespeare Adventure. Using characters from multiple Shakespeare plays, in this tale Romeo and Juliet aren’t simply the young lovers that readers know. After a violent altercation where Romeo and Juliet are both left for dead, Juliet manages to survive and goes on the run as a warrior-for-hire. The challenge is that she is carrying a child that might just be Romeo’s. When she’s injured during a job, Juliet awakens in a “nunnery” in Padua where the locals insist that she stay put and rest before the impending birth of her baby. Juliet develops an affection for the women who care for her and decides to protect them. The problem is invading forces are on their way; one of which is Romeo.
Romeo Vs. Juliet: A Kill Shakespeare Adventure is written by Anthony Del Col, who uses Shakespearean-style English, but artist Stefan Tosheff’s art makes sure that even if you struggle with the language you aren’t going to miss out on the message. The graphic novel is told in five acts. Fans of Shakespeare plays will recognize familiar characters and references to the various settings from the famous plays. It’s a bit like well-written Shakespeare Fanfiction, promising a violent duel.
Romeo Vs. Juliet: A Kill Shakespeare Adventure comes to stores from Gemstone Publishing on April 22, 2025.
