Dark Horse has announced an upcoming series of comic books dedicated to the world of popular video game Baldur’s Gate 3. When your initial ad starts off “with stories featuring Astarion, Shadowheart, Karlach….and more” I’ve already got my answer about how this is going to go. Start with the clear money maker, and if we have enough time maybe in a few years we’ll do a story arc featuring Wyll.
The series will start with Astarion (of course, what additional content release so far hasn’t), and features a six-issue arc as he hunts a killer in Waterdeep. The story is written by Alyssa Wong, penciled by Vincenzo Carratu, colored by Valentina Tadeo and lettered by Buddy Beudoin. As always, Dark Horse has multiple variant covers as well. Issue #1 comes to stores February 24, 2027.
Here’s the synopsis of the first arc:
Astarion Ancunín is enjoying his freedom after escaping the clutches of Cazador Szarr. But when Waterdeep is rocked by a spree of gruesome ritual murders, Astarion must hunt down the killer before he becomes their next victim!
Supposedly, the second arc will follow Karlach and be written by Becky Cloonan and illustrated by Francesco Scimonel, but more details won’t be released until 2027.
Side note: I don’t hate Astarion. I quite enjoy Astarion, but we are now three years since the release date of the game and at this point many fans I know are yearning for content featuring something else.
