Big fan of Wonder Woman? Love some Mythology in your knowledge base? The Getty Villa in Malibu, CA has you covered with their special talk “Amazon: Warrior Women”:

Fierce Amazons are featured in some of the most famous of Greek myths. Every great hero, from Heracles to Achilles, tangled with warrior queens. But were they real? Author Adrienne Mayor discusses these stories of ancient women warriors and shares new archaeological discoveries of battle-scarred female skeletons buried with their weapons as evidence that they were not merely figments of the Greek imagination. Combining classical myth and art, nomad traditions, and scientific archaeology, Mayor reveals surprising details and original insights about the fighting women known as Amazons.
