Memory and Forgetting in ‘Reversion’

Reversion PosterThe new trailer for Reversion shows an action-oriented side to the movie. Jose Nestor Marquez is telling a story of memory and technology, but it looks like there is a lot of good old-fashioned detective work, suspense, and betrayal in here as well. There might also be a new love interest, but his scenes in the trailer are too short to tell for sure.
I am surprised at how contemporary most of this looks. The Oubli may be future tech, but the touch-screen interface looks entirely familiar, and none of Sophie’s (Aja Naomi King) surroundings look at all unusual.

REVERSION centers on Sophie Clé (Aja Naomi King), a delighted user of the Oubli, a wisp of high-tech jewelry that wraps behind the ear and uses neuroscience to help its users experience their most joyful memories as if they were happening for the first time. In addition to being the head of marketing for the company that makes this revolutionary memory-enhancing wearable device, she is also the daughter of its inventor, Jack Clé (Colm Feore).
Sophie’s most joyful memory is the last day she saw her mother alive, fifteen years earlier. But on the eve of the Oubli’s worldwide launch, a stranger named Isa (Jeanette Samano) kidnaps Sophie, setting off a chain of events that remind us all, you can’t escape what you can’t forget.
Filmmaker Jose Nestor Marquez created highly anticipated sci-fi thriller REVERSION intertwining technology and identity, which began with his 2014 critically acclaimed feature ISA.
