Waiting for an Earl Like You, which was just published on January 3rd of this year, is the latest installment in Alexandra Hawkins’ “Masters of Seduction” series. This hot romance is a quick read, if only because you can’t put the book down. This period piece, set in Olden England, is full of scandalous and undeniable passion. My only disclaimer is that this book is definitely for mature readers due to sexual content.
The novel explores what happens when identical twin brothers fall in love with the same woman. In this case, the woman in question is Olivia Lydall. Justin “Thorn” Reeve Netherwood, who happens to be the Earl of Kempthorn, has never cared much for Olivia. He was jealous of her closeness with his twin, Gideon. I loved this novel for the relationships it builds between characters. Fitting in matters so much. There are rivalries between families, and even between brothers. I love that Olivia can’t always tell the difference between Thorn and Gideon, meaning she can’t even identify the man for which she’s developed feelings. The dialogue, especially when Thorn is involved, is witty and entertaining.
I also like that the book switches between Thorn and Olivia’s perspectives. This couple is an example of when opposites attract, so their views of the same event are often very different. It’s fun to see both sides.
If you’ve read the previous books in this series, you’ll also be happy to know that the characters in the other books do reappear in this novel.
