Edmond Rostand is not in a great place. After being told he is incapable of writing anything but boring verse plays, he’s fallen into serious writer’s block. With two kids, a wife, and two years of having written nothing, Rostand is putting a lot of things on credit. In desperation, he offers a new play to the great actor Constant Coquelin. The only problem is the play hasn’t been written. In fact, it hasn’t even been fully formed in Rostand’s mind. With strange actors to contend with, Rostand also has to assist his best friend with love letters. Only these love letters are coming to Rostand’s house, and his wife has found them. Rostand has to put together a play, help his friend, keep his marriage, and actually finish writing Cyrano de Bergerac.
Cyrano, My Love is an incredibly fun film. The film feels similar to that of Amelie and lives for French culture. The film is in French, but briefly slips into a little big of Russian when Rostand has an encounter with Anton Chekov. Cyrano, My Love, is highly enjoyable and a delight.
